Though only Kratek is her domain, Lamashtu casts a long shadow over the cosmos. She is considered the mother of all beasts, magical and mundane. The saurians of Kratek, the mighty owlbear, the remmoraz, blink dogs, chupacabaras; all these and more have some vague notion of a mythical progenitor. Those beasts who are sentient enough to have notions of gods and religion offer deference to the Beastmother, while the rest honor her by surviving in the grand contest of her offspring. When Lamashtu is pictured, she shares some aspect of every animal the artist knows. Most commonly she has a pair of feathered wings and a pair of leathery wings, multiple tails ending in spikes, stingers, and tapered points, a scaled body with bony spikes and tufts of fur, horns and antlers forming a jagged and uneven crown, and a long maw filled with teeth. She is always shown squatting or laying on her side, ready to give birth or nurse her children. The druids who honor her say that she embodies the chaotic will for improvement through contest in the cosmos, and every form will eventually pass through her loins until the perfect beast is born and the wilds are totally reclaimed from civilization. A formal clergy is hardly common for Lamashtu, but hunters, rangers, and druids often pay her homage and invoke her when attempting to win over a beast companion. Many tribes of wild elves have a cleric who attempts to know the will of the Beastmother, preferring to wear hides and wielding simple stone weapons like clubs and axes. A few summoners claim that Lamashtu is a force of Protean energy, the ever-shifting ethereal source of chaos in the cosmos, and that drawing on her power allows them to conjure new forms of beasts into existence as eidolons. Further rumor suggests that Alain and Lamashtu have together brought about a new surge of strange and diverse beasts still being discovered across Kratek.
